Abstract: Maintaining a pipeline facility has become an extremely complex task involving the application of several disciplines. In-line Inspection (ILI) is only one part of a comprehensive maintenance program. It remains however, one of the most important components of an effective program.

Pipeline Inspection has changed. In the 70's and 809's we were content with defect detection. In the 80's and 90's we moved from detection to quantification. We are now poised to make the next dramatic step, more defects more accurately assessed. To better quantify defects and broaden the range of defects that can be detected will require the use of multiple technologies. Only by collecting more information can we advance the state of the art of pipeline inspection tools.
