Abstract: THE AUTHORS present the details of a methodology for estimating the optimum length of a buried pipeline to be protected using a photovolatic-powered impressed-current cathodic protection (ICCP) system. In the case of an example notional buried pipeline in Memphis, Tennessee, this length is between 9 and 10km, and this result is only marginally sensitive to the combination of angle of tilt of the PV array (with respect to the horizontal) and the rating of the battery bank that is used.
