Title: Detecting leakage in water networking using GPR

Abstract: Over the past seven years most water companies in the UK have made commendable progress in reducing leakage. Many are now at or just above what is seen as their economic level of leakage (ELL), the level at which the cost of reducing leakage becomes higher than the cost of increasing supply. Even so, the government has warned against complacency and is encouraging the water companies to look to advances in technology and detection techniques as an option to lower their ELL and hence lower targets for acceptable leakage. This paper looks at a tried and tested technology, groundpenetrating radar (GPR), which has been adapted to help with leakage detection.
