Abstract: High Resolution caliper tools can detect and size dents as well as detect girth welds, but they cannot detect or size metal loss or detect seam welds. Alternatively high-resolution magnetic-flux leakage tools can detect girth and seam welds, as well as size metal loss features, but cannot size dents accurately. By combining data from both types of inspections we can ensure that operators’ and the DOT’s concerns regarding dents and corrosion can be adequately addressed. In this paper we present data that outlines the capabilities of both types of tools and show the benefit of combining the two data sets, through BJ’s software program GeminiView, to properly analyze the true condition of the pipeline condition, and ensure pipeline integrity.
