Abstract: The oil and gas industry is facing an increased focus on environmental issues in all its activities. Statoil has recognized the competitive advantages of having detailed knowledge in this area, and care for the environment has been a central part of Statoil's philosophy during the 1990s. This also applies to the large pipeline systems that are being constructed by Statoil to supply Norwegian gas to continental Europe. This paper will address the environmental aspects of precommissioning and commissioning of these pipelines.
