Title: A comparison of ultrasonic and diverted magnetic-flux pipeline technologies
Category: Pigsource Papers
Downloadable: Yes
Catalog No.: pg3100e
Date of Publication: 1992
Price: $25.00 US
Authors: Philip M Hoyt
Abstract: Pipeline operators today have a choice of technologies when performing an in-service pipeline inspection. Selection of an intelligent pig probably will be made between the technologies of diverted magnetic-flux analysis (the term preferred by this author although it is usually called magnetic-flux leakage in the pipeline-inspection industry) and ultrasonic inspection. To be sure, there are other inspection technologies, but existing pipeline systems use ultrasonic or DMF technology and this paper therefore concentrates on comparative characteristics of these two systems.
