Abstract: This paper describes the rehabilitation and refurbishment of a 300km strategic pipeline in a developing country. The pipeline was suffering from extensive internal and external corrosion. It was a crucial supply route for the import of refined petroleum products, and could not be shut down whilst repairs were carried out.

The paper presents the strategy adopted following intelligent pig surveys for the repair of the line by sleeve welding, the means of reinstating external coatings and details of the upgrading of the cathodic protection system. The paper also deals with some of the practical difficulties of the project.
