Abstract: The leakless distant transportation of large amounts of hazardous matters (for example natural gas) through a pressurized pipelines is a serious challenge. The pipeline should be able to withstand the full range of ambient conditions as well as the Earth’s crust movements, varying soil chemical state at present and after months or years of exploitation. Gas main pipelines are crucial energy line structures which should meet requirements for increased reliability and safety. Linear portions of gas pipelines are operated in difficult and various ambient conditions. The range of loads and forces is very wide and often of a probabilistic nature; it also varies in time. The gas pipeline itself has different construction solutions throughout its length; individual sections might be redesigned in the course of operation. The said factors demand an individual safety assessment be conducted.
