Abstract: The paper discusses the repair of a victorian gas mains in Cardiff. Whilst the barrel of the pipe was still in good condition, the joints had been the subject of leakage over the past six to eight years.

Previous methods of curing the leakage have centred on monogol fogging, and encapsulation. The former has not been totally successful and the latter has proven expensive.

A number of alternative repair solutions were considered and the eventual choice of internally sealing every joint and connection on the affected section proved to be worthwhile in terms of cost as well as consideration to the public, seeing how above ground disturbances were kept to a minimum.
