Title: A seabed pipeline model: Applications

Abstract: A one-sixtieth scale metal model of a section of cathodically-protected pipeline is described. Presented results illustrate how the model can be applied to examine CP-system performance and surveys of surface potentials and electric field gradients (EFG). The effects of coating damage, fully-exposed and partially-buried conditions have been examined. Results confirm the advantages of EFG surveys and illustrate their application to the derivation of anode current outputs and voltage (IR) drop corrections. The study demonstrates that physical scale modelling provides a unique laboratory technique for evaluating pipeline CP-survey methods under defined conditions, facilitating the analysis of data collected in the field.
