Abstract: Why run a geometry inspection tool? There are several reasons why you should consider running a GIT inspection of your pipeline. In the construction phase think: BASE LINE SURVEY and PERMANENT RECORD of the line condition. Operators of on-stream systems should consider: BUCKLES, EXPANSION, PARTIALLY- CLOSED VALVES, TAP COUPONS, and BEND LIMITATIONS. However, before you consider running the GIT, your line should be cleaned of debris. This may not always be possible; line conditions may require the GIT information prior to further pigging operations. If so, the GIT inspection is possible, and useful data can be obtained regarding the emergency situation.
