Abstract: With operators addressing regulatory requirements (such as the United States Department of Transportation CFR 195 / CFR 192), there is a need to implement both tactical and strategic approaches to reach integrity-management program objectives. The strategic approach is the development of long-term program objectives: asset optimization, change management, communications, and quality control for effective asset life cycle management. The tactical approach is the core element of the strategic program that addresses immediate and near-term requirements for safe and optimal operation of the pipeline. This includes formulating and executing the most-effective rehabilitation plans based on in-line inspection (ILI) results, consolidated direct assessment (DA) data, and other operations and maintenance (O&M) data that clearly identify immediate repair, or repair conditions and timelines as defined by corporate or government regulatory agencies. This is the integrity-management plan (IMP)element of the overall program.
